JACQUELYN IRENE PICKEL
Womens Air Force WW-II, born June 24, 1919, passed peacefully from this earth December 10, 1996 at the age of 77 years. She was especially proud to have served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during WW-II. Irene served from April 3, 1943 to December 10, 1945, when she was most needed in the heat of the war. She was awarded the World War II Victory Medal, American Campaign Medal, Good Conduct Medal.
Irene is survived by her husband, Donald, of the home; daughters, Janice McCaffrey and Deborah Freeman; sons, Donald and Michael Pickel; grandchildren, Lauren McCaffrey, Cathy Freeman, Kasey and Jesse Don Pickel, and Amanda Joe Pickel.
Services were Sunday December 15th 1400 hours at the Abbey Chapel of Rose Hill Burial Park, 6001 N.W. Grand Blvd., Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
Military Honors were given by Boyd Fallwell, Korean War Veteran. Boyd was honored and privileged to fold and present Irene's flag on behalf of the office of the President of the United States of America.
Five memorial certificates have been ordered from the White House for Irene's husband and four children.
They will be signed by the President.
I would like to thank veteran Butch Phillips of Rose Hill Burial Park for his assistance in folding Irene's flag.
Womens Memorial in Washington, D.C.
The Women's Army Corps Museum is the only museum in the States dedicated to women in the military service! The 12,000 square foot museum is located 10 miles north of I-20 on Alabama Route 21, north of Anniston, Alabama, on Fort McClellan, the former home of the Women's Army Corps and site of the Women's Army Corps Memorial Chapel.
The half million dollar museum--financed entirely by donations from active duty, retired, and former members of the Women's Army Auxiliary Corps and the Women's Army Corps, friends, and local civilian supporters--was given to the United States Army in 1978.
